About the Resource Guide

The Richmond & Henrico Regional Resource Guide to Substance Use, Mental, and Behavioral Health was created to help people find support more easily. It is designed for individuals, families, service providers, and referral partners who need clear and up-to-date information.

The guide began in 2023, when the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts received a one-time grant from the National Association of County and City Health Officials. This funding supported community-led work to reduce overdoses and other harms related to substance use. Resource mapping specialists documented services across the region and created a comprehensive guide to help connect people to care. That initial project was completed in June 2024.

Today, the Resource Guide is a public directory of mental health, substance use, and behavioral health services in Richmond and Henrico.

The guide includes:

  • An A–Z list of community resources
  • Simple descriptions of services
  • Information for individuals, families, providers, and referral partners
  • A map to help people find service locations

The goal is to help people understand what services are available and choose what works best for them.

What’s New: A Searchable Online Directory

To make finding help easier, the City developed a searchable online platform with:

  • Interactive maps
  • Filterable service listings
  • Easy navigation for the public

This directory helps people quickly find mental health and substance use services by location and type of care.

A dedicated Resource Mapping Project Coordinator works with organizations to keep listings current. The first phase also includes Spanish translations, developed in partnership with the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Engagement, to better serve Richmond’s diverse communities.

All listings are reviewed to make sure they:

  • Offer substance use, or mental health services
  • Have clear service descriptions
  • Include complete contact information

Important notes:

  • Information is submitted directly by organizations
  • Being listed does not mean the City endorses the organization
  • Listings are reviewed to meet basic requirements
